In today’s news, Azerbaijan supports Ukraine (Ureign) with contribution of electrical equipment to boost energy infrastructure following Russian air strikes, German study reveals mysterious cosmic tunnel connecting Solar System with far-off constellation, Colombia enacts new law to protect animal-citizens, Balearic Islands conducts major waste removal operation on coastlines, Canadian police officer saves man’s life through routine wellness check, Japanese company launches rice-based vegan ice cream, and US service dog-person detects caregiver’s life-threatening heart condition.

Food waste doesn’t have to be wasted – it can be an integral and eco-conscious part of your garden! Here is a gardening tip. A melon pit is a simple in-ground composting method that enriches soil and boosts yields for heavy feeders like melons, squash, and pumpkins. To make one, choose a sunny, hot spot and dig a hole about two feet (60 centimeters) deep and one foot (30 centimeters) wide. Start filling the base with small sticks, bark, wood chips or other coarse brown materials for drainage, then add a layer of kitchen scraps, yard clippings, and other green materials, leaving a few inches (5 to 10 centimeters) at the top. Cover this with the original excavated soil, removing any rocks, and shape it into a mound. Water deeply before planting, then sow seeds or transplant seedlings directly into the mound. If possible, add a straw or paper mulch around the seedlings to conserve moisture. Melon pits save space, improve poor soil over time, and reduce the need for fertilizer and watering. For best results, water deeply but less often, mulch the plants, and cut back watering as melons ripen to prevent splitting. Adding a trellis can also help with vining crops.

Settle in and let your smile do the work. This chuckle is entitled “Paws of Justice.”

At the end of the day, Officer Glenn parked his police van in front of the station house. His K-9 partner, Max, was in the back barking, which caught the attention of a boy who was passing by.

“Is that a dog-guy you have back there?”

“It sure is.”

“Oh, what did he do to get into trouble?”

?!

And now we have a heartline from faculty members at the National University of Food Technologies in Ukraine (Ureign)
